About Central Pacific Center – Hurricane Network


Welcome to the Central Pacific Center!

 

The Central Pacific Center is a branch underneath The Hurricane Network located in Hilo, Hawaii, CPC issues tropical cyclone products for the Central Pacific basin which is located between longitude 140 west and the International Dateline. CPC is ran under the direction of Kamron Apolo who resides in Hilo and has a¬†Bachelor’s Degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of Hawaii. The Central Pacific Hurricane Season runs from June 1st to November 31st and CPC issues several different products during hurricane season, a full list of them can be found below.

  • Tropical Cyclone Outlook¬†
    • This product outlines areas of disturbed weather that has the potential of developing into a tropical cyclone within five days, this product is accompanied by a graphical outlook which shows the disturbance and 5-day development area. This product is updated at 8 AM, 2 PM, 8 PM, 2 AM HST, a special outlook can be issued outside of normal issuance times when needed to update the discussion on a disturbance.
  • Tropical Cyclone Advisories
    • During an active tropical cyclone in the Central Pacific, CPC issues a public advisory and forecast discussion every six hours, special advisory products can be issued due to unexpected changes in between normal advisory issuance.
  • Tropical Cyclone Updates
    • This is a brief statement to inform users on significant changes to a cyclone or watches and warnings between normal advisory issuance. This product can also be issued to update users on the position of an approaching tropical cyclone that is easy to detect on radar between advisories. This product can be issued at any time.
